Press Release: Local business donates 7000+ baby supplies to wildfire evacuees
(VANCOUVER, BC) August 8, 2017 – This week, Maple Leaf Self Storage is donating over 7000 baby items to families affected by the BC wildfires.
The Vancouver-based company is sending 6900 diapers, 80 tubs of baby wipes, 120 bottles of infant formula, and 100 bottles of baby food to Williams Lake, thanks to a generous discount from Loblaws City Market in West Vancouver.
Earlier in July, the entire city of Williams Lake was ordered to evacuate as a result of the fire hazard. An estimated 11,000 people were forced to leave. Though the order has recently been lifted, residents are coming home with limited access to supplies and services.
“Imagine having to evacuate with a child, and when you come back, there are barely enough supplies for adults, let alone babies,” said Tracy McEvoy, Director at Maple Leaf. “The Salvation Army needed more baby supplies. Many of our friends and tenants are among those affected by the wildfires, and as a BC business, we felt it was important to contribute in any way we could.”
On Friday, August 11, local movers Purely Canadian Movers will pick up the items at Maple Leaf’s Commercial Drive location and deliver to the Salvation Army in Williams Lake, who will distribute them to evacuees.

For those hoping to contribute supplies, please contact the Salvation Army directly; otherwise, the Canadian Red Cross is accepting monetary donations here: www.redcross.ca.
